Growing

The other night Chris said "look, Unity is half your height now." No way I said. Not possible. He got the camera and told her to stand next to me and lo and behold...I am offically opening the betting pool- how long will it take for Unity to grow taller than me? And some more fun satorial choices from both kids. I swear sometimes Unity's outfits remind me of that photo book Fruits about the Tokyo teenagers.

What have we here?

Oh, just another day of unbridled fun and silliness at the Kid's Museum with usual suspects Meridian and Archer.

Goin' to the Durham and we're gonna get married...

This weekend I was lucky to attend the wedding of my good friend Erik in Durham. Erik and I met early on in our first year at Earlham and we've been close ever since so it was lovely to help celebrate him and his charming partner Meg. Sadly I have no actually pictures of Erik and Meg because I have learned over the years that people hire professional photographers for a reason. Shocking, I know. So I've given up the blurry rushed ceremony shots and I only have a few pre-wedding glimpses to offer. I got to share a hotel suite with Amanda, Emily and Nelia and believe you me, we had good times. I also ran into our friend Jennie from Earlham and it was so nice to see her! My Earlham peeps make me laugh like no one can and spending just a few days with them lifts me up for a while. Cheers to Erik and Meg!

Writing games

Tonight Unity did not want to go to sleep, and instead stayed up late writing.  She has been copying words she sees around. Here is her writing and some of the originals.

I've color coded the original since some of the words are split over multiple lines, occasionally in the middle of the word, and some are written backwards, since they were backwards from her perspective.  Some of the we haven't been able to figure out all of them yet. See if you can find the words which match the pictures!

Happy Birthday to me, and to you

So for the first time in a long time my brother and I were together on our birthdays- we passed the celebration baton at midnight just after he had played a show in Seattle with his lovely band Social Studies. Even though they were here for less than 24 hours we still managed to squeeze in some celebrating and dancing and even pancakes. Cheers for another year.

Hammer Time

We went to the Seattle Art Museum today, with Eric, Meridian and Archer. We saw the Nick Cave exhibit Soundsuits which was really fun for the kids. In front of the museum is a famous statue called Hammer Man. It's iconic in Seattle- 48 feet talland slowly but steadily hammering all day long. (According to the internet, he does take Labor Day off.) If you look closely through the reflection in the window, you can see part of his arm. Unity and Meridian come up to Hammer Man's ankles and I probably come up to his shin.
