"Unity look! That stuffie is on the ground. He's not moving!"
"Quick Reuben, we have to help him."
"Is his heart moving? Shine the flashlight on it."
"I think it's moving. Yes, he is breathing."
"Breathing and beating!"
"Ok let's check his foot, is there a hole in it?"
"There is! There is a hole in his foot."
"Quick rub this piece of paper on it and see if he wakes up."
Covered in glitter and crumbs. Waking up to maracas and fairy wings. Pockets full of rubber bands and dandelions. Buried under book piles. Dirty hands with homemade kombucha. Coffee in the rain. Waiting for that sacred scrap of silence.

Nora's Woods
It's hard to believe but this little pocket of greenery is just a few blocks from our house. Nora's Woods is named after a long time Madrona resident who owned the land and arranged for it's conservation. It's our lovely little oasis right in the middle of the city.

a party weekend
This weekend was full of the festivities and social bonding that we like to indulge in. For a few months now we've been involved with a rotating date night with a group of four other families. One couple goes out, one couple hosts and a third couple comes over with their kid(s), then we rotate. It's a great way to get a free date night, or some socializing with a pretty good adult to kid ratio. This weekend my mom and I took the kids over to Hirams and hung out with Reuben. The usual hijinks ensued. on Sunday Unity went to Beatrix's birthday party which included a musical marching band around the block. (after the cake of course- genius!). If it looks like a very steep "hill" those kids are marching down, well it is Seattle after all.

food and friends
We miss Chris/Papa while he's visiting in Vermont but we've been trying to stay busy. We had a nice visit with Abby and Evan and their daughter Juna. Abby and Evan used to live in this house as Chris's roommates way back in the old days so it was fun for them to stop by en route to MA and have them see the house and garden again. Grandma Cindy has been doing lots of fun projects with the kids including (of course) tons of art. She and Unity made several paintings together. Unity's school friend Ginger came over to play and they had a blast playing with all of Unity's toys. And..I've been trying out some new recipes- quinoa salad with asparagus and soba noodles with tofu, Shitake and carrots. Yum!
