These kids have known each other all their lives. Amazing!
Covered in glitter and crumbs. Waking up to maracas and fairy wings. Pockets full of rubber bands and dandelions. Buried under book piles. Dirty hands with homemade kombucha. Coffee in the rain. Waiting for that sacred scrap of silence.

Spring Kids are 7
Friendships change as time passes. We don't see each every week anymore and in some cases we barely see each other once or twice a year. Communities shift and change as the kids get deeper into other things- school and actives, loose teeth and spelling words and everyone is so much taller.
But we walked each other through those sleepless dreamy days, walked beside each other at one of the biggest life transformations any of us will ever know.
So we still get together to celebrate the Spring kids, one more year.
Just for fun: Spring kids turn six, five, four, three, two, one, babies.

Friends
This week Unity and Hiram have been in a Lego camp together. When I came to pick her up, the instructor asked "did they know each other before?" They've been friends since they were babies I told him. He nodded. "I can tell." he said. "They work really well together."
So thankful for this, for afternoons spent in the park with lifelong buddies, and little brothers who get along well.

all the love
This weekend we got to hang with some of our Spring Kids crew. Even though we don't hang out every day like we did when they were babes in arms, it's always good when we are together.
They weave in and out of rooms, chasing and following and leading each other. Inventing games that only they understand, and swapping loose tooth tales. They pause only for a few minutes, to shovel some food in their mouths and then continue on their way.
And we boring stationary grown-ups sit and eat and talk, letting them run over and around us, until that last moment of goodbye when they wrap their arms around each others necks and squeeze tight, stumbling around and laughing in that moving motion of love that is their friendship.

Spring Kids are 6
Yesterday we celebrated the Spring Kids turning 6. We were missing a couple of kids this year- it's getting hard to navigate everyone's schedules, but we try. We hung out at the park and had cupcakes with sparklers in them- the kids were mesmerized. We are so lucky to have this crew of fun and funny families to travel with on this wacky road of parenting.
Sparkling water tickles.
Waiting for the cupcakes.
Spring Kids are 6! and a couple of siblings snuck in.

August Appreciations part 5
17. Watching these kids grow their friendship. They have been friends since they were two weeks old!
18. Watching their little brothers bonding too. (Gracious, Baird is so big now!)
19. So glad that the luck of timing brought our two families together and created this great web of friendships between all of us.

Spring Kids Are...
So they are five now. Five! This group of kids who have known each other pretty much since they were born.
It's something that I am constantly thankful for, this community. How we have listened to each other and reassured each other. We watch each others kids and share tips on schools and playgrounds.
We've swaped books and recipes, trick-or-treated together, welcomed new babies, warmed new homes and danced at birthdays.
And our kids- they grow into each other, and away, then back again. Discovering new games, and delighting in old ones.
Younger siblings are bonding too.
Parenting, whew. It's such a strange and consuming trip. All the more reason to celebrate those moments. The ones where we sit back and enjoy each other, our kids and all the crazy wonder they bring to us, to our city, our world.
It's like a beautiful spring day when you realize you don't need all those layers after all.
So three cheers for the Spring Kids.
Keep making your magic.
