Tinkering

We've been rattling around the house for Spring Break. It's mostly been ok but you know there have been some sibling squabbles. One morning the kids were fighting and I separated them. Brixton went off and asked for a piece of paper. I found him writing a letter to Santa that says "I hope I am on the good list." The fighting was driving me nuts but at least that letter is really sweet.

We also took the kids to Goodwill and let them pick out $5 electronics which they then took apart. It's very important to Chris that they be allowed to tinker, and see how things work. It is fun for them to see what's inside these old machines and think about how they are made. And it's a good use of an afternoon.

We are on Spring Break this week. This year Chris has taken some time off work and we are doing a fabulous staycation. Monday was a little cold and cloudy but we went to the park to meet up with some buddies we haven't been able to see as often. The kids were able to romp around together, Unity was able to play her big sister role with the 2 year old twins and many large sticks were stockpiled.

The kids have also been spending long leisurely mornings in their pjs, and then being my glam team- brushing my hair and doing my nails. It's the Spring Break beauty spa I guess.

I have to work a couple days this week but Chris and the kids have some adventures planned including going to Goodwill and finding something to disassemble, and taking a trip to the math store. It may not be an exotic vacation, but we've got some good times.

L.A. part three- the rest

I know it seems like I've been talking about our trip forever now, but we packed a lot in. We went tromping around China town and Olvera street, which is the oldest part of L.A. and where you really get immersed in Latin American culture.  Unity got a new dancing outfit. We all got our nails done. (The kids think this is a special thing that only Los Angeles natives know how to do. I haven't changed their minds about that.)

We got to spend lots of time with my dear friends Amanda and Nelia and a little time with their partners too. Those girls make me laugh like no one else, and I always love every minute with them.

Soaking up some last bits of sunshine, it's hard to leave. See you next time L.A.

Los Angeles part one

We are back from a fabulous Spring Break trip to L.A. We had such a blast eating, playing and visiting. Here we are hanging out at the Santa Monica beach.

Spring Break part 2

I barely need to describe it right? I mean, just look at it.
We visited the Platonic ideal of a beach.

Also, both Chris and I got to catch up with very dear college friends who live in L.A.
The kind of friends who, when you see them, it feels like coming home.

The kids were just content to dig in the sand and build endless castles, only to stomp on them before the waves could wash them away.
