Yarn along-my first sweater

Please forgive my awesome hair, I was on my way to the Y to work out.

Ok so I finished my first sweater. It was fun to make, but here's the thing...it doesn't fit her. Not even close. I knew it would be big and was thinking she would grow into it, but the arms are way too long and the neck is too wide. I know there is a magical thing called blocking that is supposed to make everything better, but is it really that magical? I'm sad cause I spent most of a month and more money than I want to admit to working on this and now it looks like she won't even be able to wear it. Sigh.

As for books, I'm reading Growing Into Goodness, essays on Quaker education by my former professor Paul Lacey. I also read The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest, since it's finally out in paperback. It's just like all the others, thrilling, disturbing and a quick read.

Yarn along- my first sweater

                              I am working on my first sweater. It's for Unity and I love the yarn and how soft it is. It won't be finished by her birthday ( which is Tuesday!) so I'm not stressed about it, I'm just enjoying the process.

I'm reading A Plain Life by Scott Savage which is a facinating memoir about a man who is walking to Columbus Ohio to give up his driver's license. Savage is a Quaker but a more conservative kind. His family lives and dresses very similarly to the Amish. It's interesting to read about the things they gave up and why, and it makes a lot of sense to me even if I'm not there.

The other is Everything by Kevin Canty, for my book club. It's very realistic, set in Montana, and focused on the simple struggles and joys of a few people. I'm just starting it but so far the bare simple style is a nice change from the other things I've been reading.
