We had a great time hanging out with Cooper and his parents while Hiram and Baird's parents left the kids with us and went out. Cooper has lots of fun games as well as rocket balloons. The adults gently fought over the chance to hold baby Baird, aged three months. He was very sweet, and happy to indulge us all.
Covered in glitter and crumbs. Waking up to maracas and fairy wings. Pockets full of rubber bands and dandelions. Buried under book piles. Dirty hands with homemade kombucha. Coffee in the rain. Waiting for that sacred scrap of silence.

Brixton boogies with bongos
Brixton is our music man. He loves singing, his music class, listening to music, dancing, the whole thing. For his birthday he received many new instruments, including this set of bongos from Uncle Michael the drummer. He's starting.
and just a little aside, we have primer on our new walls and it's starting to look like a house in there again.

yarn along- cables
On our road trip I started this scarf which has cables and chart reading, two things I've never done before. I had to rip out the mistakes a few times but now I'm in the groove of it and I really like how it's coming along.
I just finished Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood for my book club. Atwood is always amazing, and this book is a complex and mysterious story of a Victorian murder and the beginnings of psychology.

gathering and winding
We have been gone for three out of the past four weekends. It feels like there's been so much happening, it's been difficult for me to take it all in, to know what it means. It's been a very chaotic and eventful summer. This weekend we just hung around and got caught up on things. I got a chance to gather and settle and plan, sinking into this season of autumn and getting back to our regulars. It feels nice. Gathering bits of Halloween costumes, and beets and squash, and stunning leaves on the sidewalks. Finding my place in these chilly but sunny days. Planning the fermentation projects and the knitting projects and the book piles and the bulbs to plant. Easing back into home. It feels so good.

a San Francisco birthday- part one
We were able to spend a quick couple of days in San Francisco celebrating Brixton's birthday. Amazingly enough, all of our families were able to come together, twelve of us in all. We played, we ate, we watching some bands at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival and our little guy was well feted.

yarn along- a hat for unity
Well after I made a hat for Chris and one for me, Unity wanted one too. Thankfully I had some great yarn for her in my stash- pink and purple.
I'm still inspired by our weekend at Quarterly Meeting, so I've been reading lots of Quaker books. Practicing Peace: A Devotional Walk Through the Quaker Tradition by Catherine Whitmire
They are both great books to savor and reflect upon.
